Turns out that Construction Junction takes all sorts of hard to recycle stuff and they also know who takes other stuff for reuse.

I hope so... Does anyone know if garbage collection resumed this week, and if so, whether collection will be moved up one day due to President's Day?

According to The Department of Public Safety Snowstorm Emergency Page, "Garbage and recycling pickup has been suspended until further notice."

I moved to Edgewood last week from the city and am trying to adapt to their gimpy recycling program (plastics #1-2, glass, aluminum). My plan is to take everything else to Construction Junction, but I can't find on their website how they want their drop-offs organized--i.e. should I have plastic #4 in one bag, #5 in another, etc, or can I throw ( Read more... )

Where in Pittsburgh can I safely dump electronics I no longer need? Example: Non-working TV or CRT computer monitor. They still potentially hold a charge(and maybe some other harmful material) so I was looking for a place to safely discard them.

So, we talked about how Pittsburgh allows us to use blue recycling bins rather than the bags. I love this. What I don't love is that neither Home Depot nor Lowes carry these. I checked- Home Depot has them online, but online ONLY, not in-store. Shipping is stupid on them.

Anyone know where I can get clearly labeled, blue, recycling bins?

I started using compact fluorescent lightbulbs a few months ago and the first one just burnt out.  I know you're not supposed to throw them away, but does anyone know what you are supposed to do with them?
